Getting your music from the cloud has never been easier. Speaker wire comes in different thicknesses, most commonly ranging from 12 gauge to 18 gauge . Confusingly, the wire gets thicker as the numbers go down---12 gauge is thicker than 18 gauge.
This project required almost 3 bags of 10 pairs. I don’t know if my set up actually sounds better than just using speaker wire, but these look good, are solid and their size makes them easy to handle. So if you’re not sure if expensive speaker wire makes a difference or is snake oil, this is a good compromise. This is with much higher (i.e. thinner) gauge cable than we were using in our test. However, it shows that as an extreme, it’s an objectively measurable difference.

The difference was far less noticeable than with the big Krell speakers. We were fairly confident in our choice , and that choice turned out to be... To say the differences were subtle would be an overstatement.
Unfortunately, most consumer-grade amps, A/V receivers, and speakers use cheap, spring-loaded terminals, designed to have bare wires shoved in. They are designed for use with amplifiers or speakers fitted with either traditional binding posts or spring clip connectors. Not only is it easier to make the connection on the back of your amp, it is safer, with no chance of stray wire strands creating a short across contacts. I was truly amazed and even shocked at the dramatic difference there was in sound quality after connecting this GearIT speaker cable. In the past, I’d only used ‘speaker wire’ purchased on a spool that I’d cut off a length, strip the thin coating around the wire, attach it and go.

When I was looking to put in a Surround Sound system for our Outdoor Entertainment Area I looked at various options for speakers and set up. I chose to hard wire our speakers rather than go with Bluetooth. Oh, and hopefully this goes without saying, but make sure your amplifier is turned off or unplugged from power until you’ve made all of your connections. Even if you insulate the connector body, the pins are still “live” and can short out, damaging the amp, or give you an electric shock that could potentially be fatal. I believe they add openness throughout the spectrum and lend presence to the mid-bass. I will caution people to give these time to settle in before judging.

It’s a minor detail, but when both are installed side-by-side on the same unit the mismatch looks hokey and amateurish. Served up on its own it’s just fine, although countersunk screws definitely look more professional. Simply press on the splice top tab, insert wire, and release. The crimps have a very strong hold, and requires no tools or equipment. But as is its a 3 star decent cable that works. Just do not pull from anywhere but the metal casing when unplugging.
Anything which affects a part of that continuous circuit will have an effect on the quality of sound. This seems obvious, but it’s surprising how many people don’t think that way. I was a bit shocked when I saw the new cut-off ends to see that it was silver color. I counted 39 strands, so it’s about 40 strands per side. No but really, this is the best speaker wire I’ve ever used. I ordered some of their 14 ga. , hopefully it’s equally good.
I’m sure someone could tell me this is because it’s not ultra hyper braided like all wires for all purposes should be, but it’s easy to use and I can’t hear how helical the internal wire is. I actually AM happy to see the RCA name on a product that’s actually quality. Doesn’t feel too cheap just not sure how long it’ll last.
As you’d expect, as wire gets thinner it generally gets cheaper. If you belong to one of these groups and want to leave a comment, I ask that you read this entire article carefully before doing so. And both cables cost less than 70 bucks total. I’ll be buying more to finish my trip from amp to speaker.
